ADS-B

During the late 1990’s and into the early years of the 2000’s joint teams from Europe and the USA as well as other contributing States developed a first set of ADS-B packages separated into ground and airborne surveillance applications enabled by ADS-B and collectively called “Package I”. These packages were then worked on by a joint team of global operational and technical experts lead by the RTCA and Eurocae.

AVISU has been a core member since 2004 supporting the publication of numerous ADS-B, WAM and Mode S specifications and guidance material in both the European and North American Regions.

Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control (A-SMGCS) including ASDE-X

Since 1974 ICAO has been developing Airport Surface Surveillance requirements. In 1979 ICAO published its first circular 148 on Surface Movement Guidance and ControlSystems (SMGCS). In 1990 A-SMGCS was launched involving ICAO, Eurocontrol, FAA and various standards bodies which looked to enhance the SMGCS requirements to support Air Traffic Control use in all weather conditions. This included various ‘Levels’ as defined by both ICAO and Eurocontrol. In 2018 the Eurocontrol Levels have been replaced by a more functional approach to the requirements.

AVISU has been key members of the global team working on A-SMGCS since 2002. We are still working with experts and industry worldwide in developing new requirements on such areas as Routing and Guidance (also known as Follow The Greens).

Examples of A-SMGCS Specifications we are able to provide training and operational support on include:

  • Eurocontrol A-SMGCS specifications (Old Levels and 2018 functional specficiation) including “follow the greens (routing and guidance)”
